Course Outline
The When yes means YES course is an on-demand course designed to build carer’s skills and confidence to talk with young people aged developmentally 12 – 14 years in their care, about non-sexual consent and affirmative sexual consent.
This course was developed by carers, young people, the Australian Childhood Foundation, the Centre for Excellence in Therapeutic Care and OzChild, supported by the Victorian Government Department of Families, Fairness and Housing.
What will you learn?
There are six, self-paced modules that form part of this online course and it takes between 15 and 20 minutes to complete each module.
- Preparing for consent conversations
- Healthy & unhealthy relationships
- Understanding personal boundaries
- Consent – what it is, how we give it & get it
- Grooming, coercion & consent
- Consent & the online world
At the end of each online module, there are activities for carers to select and complete with the young person. Which activities a carer chooses will depend on the age, stage and development of the young person. Each activity has content alerts, to help carers select the right activities, depending on the needs of the young person.
Activities include videos, quizzes and scenarios for discussion. These activities are in addition to the time estimates provided and can take as long or as little time as needed, and can be done downloaded and completed at any time.
Target Audience:
Foster carers, and case managers/support workers from foster agencies - in Victoria only.
Important information:
This course is currently funded by the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH) for Victorian foster carers and case managers/support workers from Victorian foster agencies. This course was developed and funded in response to the affirmative sexual consent law changes in Victoria during 2022. In the future, a national course for other states will be made available, so please contact us using the below enquire button if you wish to register your interest for the National course.
This course is available from March 2025 to end September 2025 and has limited, no-cost registrations for Victoria carers and foster agencies. Once the DFFH funded registrations have been filled, there will be a cost to access this course.
A course for kinship carers will be released in the coming months.
