You’re invited to a free Consent Conversations Workshop to explore how to engage with young people in in out-of-home care about consent, in a trauma informed way.
This workshop introduces you to When Yes Means YES (WYMY) — a free, on-demand course designed to support carers talk with young people (developmentally aged 12–14) about:
WYMY was co-designed by carers, young people, the Australian Childhood Foundation, and the Centre for Excellence in Therapeutic Care, with support from the Victorian Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH). The foster care course was developed in partnership with OzChild.
Facilitator
Belinda Lorek is a social worker with over 25 years of experience working with children and young people in youth justice, child protection, disability services, and victim support. She has spent the last 18 months leading the WYMY project, supporting carers talk about affirmative consent with young people in out-of-home care.

- Healthy and unhealthy relationships
- Consent in the online world
- Boundaries
- Grooming

Target Audience
- Foster and kinship carers from Victoria only.
- Case managers, support workers, and professionals from Victorian foster and kinship care agencies
- This workshop and the two WYMY online courses (foster and kinship) are free for Victorian foster carers, kinship carers, and agency staff.
- The program was developed in response to the 2022 affirmative consent law changes in Victoria.
- Once all DFFH-funded spots are filled, future access will require payment.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand and reflect on the key elements of affirmative consent
- Develop trauma-informed strategies for consent conversations
- Explore the two online consent training courses for foster and kinship carers
- Engage in hands-on activities for carers and young people
