Drawn from a systematic scoping review of literature currently published on trauma, violence, and abuse, this briefing seeks to investigate what the needs of Indigenous children and young people in residential care are, and how knowledge of history and trauma helps us better our understanding of these needs.

What is cultural safety?

This cultural safety framework for working with First Nations peoples holistically considers cultural, spiritual, and social connections as means to know and have relationships with cultural and family groups and places in Country, supporting children and families to maintain cultural knowledge, identity, and sense of belonging.
